Owl Preview (version 0.0.1, released May 5th 2013)
This is a Development Preview of Owl to demonstrate the direction the project is moving.
Currently only message boards running vBulletin 3.x are supported. Most vBulletin 3.x boards we have tested work just fine. If you find a vBulletin 3.x board that doesn't function properly under Owl, please notify us on our forum. (Yes, we are aware of the irony that Owl's Preview doesn't support Owl's message board (yet)!)
Mac Version
A Mac Preview will be available by the end of the month. The codebase for the Windows and Mac versions is the same, however there are subtle differences in the Mac UI system that require special attention in order to meet with Apple's requirements for placement on the Apple store.
Complete Features
- Add/Remove message boards from client
- Modify existing message board
- Lua parser support
- vBulletin 3.x Support
- UI Visual Notification on New Posts
Todo List
- General UI needs to be cleaned up and unified
- Release Mac installer
- Post list view needs a frame like the thread list view has
- Clicking on a thread with unread posts should take you to the first unread post
- Add a formatting toolbar to the New Post dialog in order to easily add BBCode to the text (Issue #32)
- Add support for Multi-Post quoting
- Context menus for each post allowing Quotes, Select/Copy.
Known Issues
- Green highlight of unread forum remains until auto-refresh, even after all threads in a forum have been read (Issue #27)
- Green highlight intermittently fails to show even when there are unread threads in a forum (Issue #28)
- If `forum` that has focus gets new posts, these threads are not displayed or highlighted as expected after an automatic refresh
- If `thread` that has focus gets new posts, there is no indicator in the post view that there are new posts
- Owl fails to connect to a board after a board has been added, requires a restart of the client
- When quoting a post, the post's HTML shows in the 'New Post' window, should be BBCode. (Issue #31)
- Settings option in context menu does nothing (Issue #29)
- Links inside posts do nothing, they should open in a (default) browser window (Issue #30)
- Navigation is not consistent on panes - single click on forum pane changes forums but a double-click is required on the thread pane to change threads
- If the forum structure on a board changes, those changes are not synced to Owl
- Owl does not handle vbulletin 3.x boards that use URL rewrites (Issue #6)
